I started using dropbox a few months ago after many a friend introduced had sent me links to it. I didn't initially join because I had a box.net account, as well as 4shared and may be some other I never used at the time. My rationale was why get another "online hard drive?"
Well this one turned out to be different in the sense that
you have a little tiny software that you need to install locally on your machines that you intend using it on. Here's how it works. The beauty of this online storage/sharing space is in the fact that all you need to do is to drop a copy of the file you want to store/backup online in the Dropbox folder (that would appear under your main Document folder in your computer) and the software will do the rest. Synchronizing all computers where you have your account dropbox installed.

2. Install on you PC with default settings by following prompt
3. Access dropbox anywhere; on your mobile and locally on the different computers..
You can also use dropbox as a sharing tool by sending links to folks you want to have access to your files. They would be able to download via this link.
You get 2GB free once you sign up and can even get more than that when you refer your friends to this tool. Dropbox says: "For every friend who joins and installs Dropbox, we'll give you both 250 MB of bonus space (up to a limit of8 16 GB)!" Not a bad size considering you didn't pay a dime to get it.
